Illustration 3 - Editorial:Small Talk

We had a choice of two articles, I chose the article about 'small talk' and how beneficial it was the society. The teacher vetoed my first idea, since she wanted everyone to try and stay away from using computers. I tried thinking of other ways we communicated with each other and thought of sign language. So I have different hands forming a talk bubble.

Illustration:Typography - Famous Date

The assignment was to take the date and what happened and create a poster that reflected the meaning or the what the quote was about. I wanted the date to look as if it was transplanted in his name. I have two variations of the poster because the instructor asked to see what it looked like inverted.

Illustration:Editorial - Standing By

The article was about how airports seem to bring out the worst in people and whether it was because of the airport environment or because that is who they truly are. This assignment wasn't successful for me. Mainly on the position of the plane with the people in it. Oh well, better luck next time!

Illustration:Typography - Quote

Our second assignment for Type was to take the words from a famous quote (we had a list to chose from) and arrange it to represent the book. We had to include the quote, author and book title in our design. I wanted the quote to sit at the bottom of the layout to show how heavy a feeling it was and how it weights down on a person. The title and author are at the top of the layout to represent what Beloved is. I haven't read the book, but it seems very interesting.

Illustration:Editorial - Craiglist Ad

Our second assignment for my Editorial class was to find a Craiglist Ad and do an illustration of what we thought that person looked like. I wish I had the ad I chose, but I can't find it at the moment. The actual color is a little duller that how it appears in this scan.

Illustration 3 - Animal

Our second assignment for Illustration 3 was to visualize ourself as an animal. I painted myself as a cat emphasizing the trait of wanting to love when you are not ready for it that cats have. I don't like how the face came out and it is probably due to the fact I started the final piece before a final sketch. I am also unhappy with how I painted the face. Win some, lose some.

This was our first assignment for Illustration: Design and Type. We had to use two different fonts, one sans serif and one serif, and create a poster using just our name.

Illustration 3 - Beatles Song

My first assignment for Illustration 3 was to illustrate a Beatles song from a list that was given to us. I chose Eleanor Rigby and illustrated the lyric about picking up rice in front of a church where a wedding has been, lives in a dream. I wanted to illustrate "lost opprotunities" and loneliness.
